REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Loosen the front wheel lugs slightly, then raise and safely support the front of the vehicle. Remove the front wheel(s) and temporarily attach the rotor disc with two of the wheel lug nuts.

  2. Remove and position aside the brake caliper. Unbolt and remove the torque plate from the steering knuckle.

  1. Remove the two wheel nuts and pull the brake disc from the axle hub.

To install:
  1. Position the new rotor disc onto the axle hub and reinstall the two wheel nuts temporarily.
    2.  
  2. Install the torque plate onto the steering knuckle. Tighten the plate bolts to 65 ft. lbs. (88 Nm). Install the brake caliper assembly-refer to the necessary service procedure.

  3. Remove the wheel lug nuts and install the front wheels. Secure the wheel lugs. Before moving the vehicle, make sure to pump the brake pedal a few times to seat the brake pads against the rotors.

INSPECTION

The brake disc rotors should be refinished on a brake lathe, when replacing the front brake pads for the brake pads to wear properly.

Examine the brake disc. If it is worn, warped or scored, it must be replaced. Check the thickness of the brake disc against the specifications given in the Brake Specifications Chart. If it is below specifications, replace it. Use a micrometer to measure the thickness.

The disc run-out should be measured before the disc is removed and again, after the disc is installed. Use a dial indicator mounted on a magnet type stand to determine runout. Position the dial so the stylus is 0.039 inch (10mm) from the outer edge of the rotor disc. Check the run-out specification of brake disc against the specifications given in the Brake Specifications Chart. If run-out exceeds the specification, replace the brake disc.

Be sure that the front hub bearing play is with specifications. If it is not, an inaccurate run-out reading may be obtained.
